Week 3: Day 11 - Genesis 18-19

Scripture Reading: Genesis 18-19

Devotional Focus: Trusting God’s Justice and Mercy

As moms, our hearts often ache for the brokenness we see in the world around us. Whether it’s in our children’s schools, the culture we live in, or even within our own families, the effects of sin and a world distant from God can feel overwhelming. Genesis 18-19 reminds us of the weight of that brokenness—but also of God’s justice, mercy, and faithfulness.

In Genesis 18, we see Abraham interceding on behalf of Sodom, pleading with God to spare the city if even a few righteous people can be found. Abraham’s boldness shows us the power of prayer. Like Abraham, we, too, can intercede for our families, communities, and even our world. It’s a reminder that God listens to the cries of the faithful.

But as the story unfolds in Genesis 19, we’re reminded that God is also just. Sin cannot go unpunished. The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah is a sobering account of the consequences of sin. Yet, even in His judgment, God’s mercy shines through. He sends angels to rescue Lot and his family, urging them to flee and not look back.

As moms rooted in our faith, we must heed that same call. God calls us to leave behind anything that would hinder us from following Him completely—whether it’s worldly distractions, unhealthy patterns, or compromises in our homes. Lot’s wife looked back and paid the price; her divided heart became her downfall. This is a poignant reminder to keep our eyes fixed on God and His purposes.

Reflection for Moms:

Are there areas in your life or home where you feel the pull to "look back" rather than fully trust God?

How can you be intentional in interceding for your children, family, and community this week?

What steps can you take to ensure that your home remains rooted in God’s truth and aligned with His will?

Encouragement for Today:

Moms, God sees your faithfulness, even in the small, unseen moments. Keep praying for your family and leading them in God’s ways. Even when the world around you feels broken, remember that God is both just and merciful. He hears your prayers, and He will be your strength as you root your family in His truth.

Prayer for the Day:

Lord, thank You for being a God of justice and mercy. Help me to trust You completely and to lead my family in a way that honors You. Give me the courage to leave behind anything that distracts me from Your purpose and the strength to keep praying and interceding for my loved ones. May my life and home be deeply rooted in faith and a reflection of Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
