Advent Week 4 (Dec 24): A Joyful Conclusion
A Joyful Conclusion - Embracing Christmas and the Year Ahead
As we approach the culmination of our Advent journey, Christmas Eve is upon us. It's a time of great anticipation, a time filled with the miracle and wonder of the birth of Jesus. Throughout these four weeks, we've reflected on the themes of waiting, visitation, and deploying our gifts for God's purpose.
Now, in this joyful conclusion, we turn our hearts toward Christmas and the beautiful year that lies ahead.
6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
- Luke 2: 6-14
Embracing Christmas
Christmas is not just a holiday; it's a season filled with meaning and significance. It's a time to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and to share the love and joy of His arrival with those around us. The Christmas story reminds us of the humility and love with which Jesus entered this world.
As we approach Christmas and the year ahead, let's consider how we can conduct ourselves in a way that reflects the true spirit of the season:
1. Gratitude: Let's approach Christmas with hearts filled with gratitude for the ultimate gift of salvation. Take time to reflect on the blessings of the past year and give thanks for all that God has provided.
2. Generosity: Emulate the generosity of God by extending kindness, love, and support to those in need. Christmas is a time to share the love we've received with others.
3. Peace: Amid the busyness of the holiday season, seek moments of peace and reflection. Find solace in prayer and meditation, allowing the true meaning of Christmas to fill your heart.
4. Hope: As we look forward to a new year, hold onto the hope that Christ's birth represents. It's a time for fresh starts and new beginnings, and a reminder that God's love is unending.
As we gather with our loved ones on this Christmas Eve, let us remember the warmth and love of the nativity story. Just as the shepherds and wise men gathered around the baby Jesus, we too come together in celebration of His birth. Let the light of the Christ child guide us into the coming year, filled with hope and anticipation.
